Hello and Welcome to MentalShavings.com

Every day, we’re confronted by thousands of messages imploring us to think or act in a certain way. Not just from marketers. But from our friends, colleagues and loved ones, too.

Why do some of those succeed, why do most fail miserably, and what does it tell us about how to get more done by communicating more persuasively?

That’s the stuff of strategic communications. That’s the stuff of Frank J. Oswald’s Mental Shavings. Weigh in with your comments. Or drop me a note at frank@frankoswald.com.

Predicting Monday’s Headlines: Will A-Rod Be Mister Not-Tober?

StungPost.jpgEven on my best day, I couldn’t equal the headline writers at the Post.

But I thought they could have done a lot better than “Stung!” this morning, after a swarm of insects invaded last night’s Yankee game in Cleveland.

If Alex Rodriguez’s slump continues—and the Yankees lose tomorrow night—I’m placing an early bet on Monday’s front page:

MR. NOT-TOBER.

Right now, I can’t find a Google hit for it. Or a single LexisNexis reference. So the phrase is up for grabs.
